India open tally with silver in archery World Cup

Indian compound mixed pair of Abhishek Verma and Puvasha Shende opened their account by clinching the silver medal at the Archery World Cup Stage IV in Wroclaw, Poland.

The third seed Indian duo lost to the World No. 1 US pair of Braden Gellenthien and Crystal Gauvin 151-155 in an intense final on Saturday night.

Both the teams shot 38 each in the first end but the US gained a one point lead with India shooting 37 in the second.

The world No 1 remained steady to log 40 and 39 points compared to 39 and 37 by the Indians to seal the gold medal.

India will be vying for four more medals in the recurve finals scheduled later in the day.

The men's and women's team will fight for the gold in their respective events, while Deepika Kumari will also look to add two bronze medals in the individual and mixed pair where she's been tagged with Talukdar.
