Malhotra said that while Sports Minister MS Gill is taking credit for the inauguration, in reality, the expenditure on these had multiplied many fold and the delay has affected the preparation of the Indian contingent for the Commonwealth Games (CWG). “He (Gill) himself has admitted that the constructions are behind schedule. Though some of these stadiums are being inaugurated, the public money that has been put in due to the delay is a clear case of criminal negligence,” said Malhotra.

Malhotra also lambasted the ministry for meddling in the affairs of sports federations. “The govt shouldn’t interfere in sports bodies’ elections. It’s in a clause in the International Olympic Committee’s charter as well.”
