An Australian schoolboy has entered the record books after running 200 metres in 21.73 seconds — a record for his age group. He was also 0.08 seconds quicker than what Usain Bolt ran as a 14-year-old, according to reports.
From the New South Wales southcoast in Australia, James Gallaugher made the record at a weekend performance in Townsville, according to an Australian news website.
Gallaugher is one of the people making their claim for selection for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Gallaugher’s coach, however, told the website the sudden fame was putting too much pressure on the teen.
“We don’t want to put too much pressure on a 13-year-old,” the coach said. “He’s in good hands and will definitely be part of our junior programmes.
A video of the boy running 4x100m relay went viral last year.
