The Indian started slowly. In fact, he was behind in the first two rounds, but towards the end of Round 3, he gathered momentum and then never looked back.

Said Narjeet after the match: "I had studied his semifinal bout yesterday. He is short, so I played counter till the third round. Towards the end of Round 3, I started to attack."

From there on, Narjeet become very aggressive, leaving his opponent with no chance. The Indian was trailing 3-5 after Round 2 but went ahead 5-6 in the subsequent round.

Narjeet's next target is qualifying for the Olympics. "That's my next target," the National Games gold-medallist said. Earlier this year, he had won a silver in the King's Cup at Bangkok.

India eighth in handball

India lost to UAE 32-34 in the 7th-8th place. The match was evenly contested but the Indians attack proved a little below par.

Shooters disappoint

Host shooters were unimpressive on the final day of the competition. Vijay Kumar finished 12th in 25m rapid-fire pistol with 580 points. The winner, Liu Yadong of China, got 588.
