Saina outplays Korea’s Bae to enter Swiss Open final

Saina Nehwal stormed into the final of the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold in Basel on Saturday after she edged past Korea's Youn Joo Bae.

Saina Nehwal stormed into the final of the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold in Basel on Saturday after she edged past Korea's Youn Joo Bae.

Saina, seeded second, was made to sweat but eventually prevailed 21-19, 13-21, 21-14 in a 58-minute battle.

The Indian shuttler was trailing 6-14 in the first game but recovered to pocket it. The World No. 4 will now take on the winner of the match between Korea's Ji Hyun Sung and Germany Juliane Schenk.

On Friday, Saina, 21, had accounted for sixth seed Petya Nedelcheva of Bulgaria 22-20, 21-17 in the quarterfinal.

The other Indians in the fray, Ajay Jayaram and the men's doubles pair of Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas crashed out in the quarters.
