With this, the country's medal haul in the event so far stood at two, an improvement on the singular bronze that Alka Tomar had won in the 2006 China edition.

The country is participating in all seven weight categories (48kg, 51kg, 55kg, 59kg, 63kg, 67kg and 72 Kg) at the event.

Earlier, Babita had defeated Hsin-Ju Chiu from Chinese Taipei in the semifinals. She clinched the medal after defeating Zamira Rakhmanova from Russia in the repechage round.

Silpi Sheoran (59kg) and Navjot Kaur (67kg) finished fifth in their respective weight categories.
