Prasad was immediately rushed to the local Rajeshwar Hospital in the state capital, where he was given medical treatment. Two stitches were also required. Doctors attending to him termed his condition stable.

According to sources, the incident took place around 9.15pm when Prasad, in his Innova, was crossing the ‘pipa pul’ (pontoon bridge) near Kachchi Dargah on way to Raghopur.

The vehicle got stuck in the middle of the bridge and due to the sudden jerk, the windshield broke. Prasad, sitting on the front seat, sustained injuries in the head and his face also got grazed as the broken windshield glasses hit him.

“We were unable to comprehend how this accident took place. It was so sudden,” said Shakti Yadav, an RJD leader who was accompanying the RJD chief in the car. Former MP Rajniti Prasad, who was in another car as part of the entourage, said he reached the place of occurrence within minutes and took Prasad to the hospital.

Sources said the doctors also carried a few tests on Prasad and bandaged the injuries. Around 11.30pm, Prasad returned to his 10, Circular Road residence in Patna .

DGP Abhyanand told HT that the RJD chief sustained minor injuries when the windshield of the car suddenly broke on the bridge.

The RJD chief, who is busy preparing for the party’s ambitious Parivartan Rally in Patna on May 15, was going to Raghopur to meet the families hit by a major fire that broke out in the area on Thursday.
