Taslimuddin, who is also minister of state for food and civil supplies, was returning after campaigning Saturday night when his vehicle was attacked at Haldikhora village in Kishanganj district, about 400 km from here, an official said.

A group of people, whom he alleged were Congress supporters, pelted stones at his vehicle and attacked it with bamboo sticks.

Kishanganj Superintendent of Police Ram Narayan Singh said a probe was underway into the attack.

Singh added that the Congress had also filed a complaint against RJD workers for allegedly attacking its party office in Haldikhora.

Taslimuddin, a sitting MP from Kishanganj is seeking a fourth term. He had gone to the village following reports of a fire that rendered many people homeless.

Taslimuddin is locked in a triangular contest with Janata Dal-United (JD-U) nominee Mahmud Ashraf and Congress' Maulana Ashrarul Haq.
