Iran has released nine out of 12 Indians who were on board the ship MT Riah that was detained in early July. However, 21 Indians are still in detention in Iran -- three from MT Riah and 18 from British oil tanker Stena Impero which was seized last week by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in the Strait of Hormuz for alleged violation of international maritime rules. With 17 lives lost during the last 24 hours, the death toll in the floods in Bihar has risen to 123. At least 10 people died in Sitamarhi, followed by five in Madhubani and two in Muzaffarpur. Till now, the floods have affected 81.58 lakh people in Araria, Kishanganj, Madhubani, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Supaul, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Saharsa, Katihar and Purnia districts. People assaulting and “grievously injuring” doctors on duty may end up with a 10-year prison sentence or be fined up to Rs 10 lakh, according to the provisions a draft bill presented in the second meeting of a 10-member committee constituted by the Health Ministry in the first week of July to examine the feasibility of bringing in a central law to criminalise violence against doctors. Scientists at ISRO performed the second of the five planned orbit-raising manoeuvre of Chandrayaan-2 in the Earth’s orbit early morning. They were able to forgo the first orbit raising manoeuvre planned for the day after lift-off as the GSLV Mark III “over-performed”. A major fire broke out at the fifth floor of a high rise residential building, Ganesh Genesis in Ahmedabad. “All people have been safely rescued, two were in serious condition, their status will be updated by the hospital,” Fire officer Rajesh Bhatt said. (ANI)
