A massive fire broke out at a factory in Bhiwandi area of Maharashtra’s Thane district early on Monday as firefighters managed to control the blaze after five and a half hours. At least 40 workers were asleep on the terrace of a nearby under construction building when the building caught fire, officials said. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and no casualties were reported. (PTI)

Four Janata Dal (Secular) leaders from Karnataka were killed in Colombo and three others are yet to contact their families after Sunday’s serial blasts in the Sri Lankan capital that killed 290 people, including 5 Indians, and injured more than 500. TV channels reported that most the leaders were from Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka. They had left for a vacation after campaigning in the constituency. (AFP)
