Photos: India’s Covid-19 tally nears 8.5 lakh after 28,637 cases in a day

India entered July 12 on the back of the highest single-day Covid-19 case spike so far. A record surge of 28, 637 cases took the national tally to just shy of 8.5 lakh according to the Union Health Ministry bulletin. The surge in numbers comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a review meeting to take stock of the Covid-19 situation in the country and cautioned that there was no room for complacency. There has been a slight uptick in the recovery rate which now stands at 62.92% as of July 12, as the number of people being cured daily continues to outpace the number of active cases.
