Diseases caused by ticks and fleas: Ticks and fleas are the most bothersome parasites that live in warm, humid weather conditions. They are responsible for causing a wide range of dangerous diseases in pets. Most commonly they cause tick fever and flea bite allergies or flea allergic dermatitis which requires proactive treatment with the help of spot-ons and sprays. In the worst cases, tick fever can lead to kidney failure as well. Hence, pet parents must closely look for such parasites and take suitable measures to protect their pets from them. Keeping your pet’s resting area clean and tidy is the first step in inhibiting the fostering of any insect-like ticks, fleas, bugs, and mosquitoes. Dry bedding must be ensured and should be replaced frequently. To avoid the menace of parasites, preventive measures must be taken. Anti-tick shampoos must be used along with anti-tick sprays and spot-on solutions that are effective in killing ticks and fleas.(Pixabay) expand-icon View Photos in a new improved layout

Skin diseases due to fungal infection: Generally, fungal infection develops in areas of the body which retain moisture like between the toes of the paw. It is characterized by discolouration, discharge, or a foul smell from the skin. Minor cases can be cured with the help of medicated baths and treatment but severe cases require more interventions. Given that pets are prone to fungal infections during monsoon, they must be kept as dry as possible. Proper care must be taken of the paws. It is the paw that comes in direct contact with the ground full of viruses, bacteria and fungi. Hence, washing their paws thoroughly along with drying and oiling them properly after every walk becomes more important than ever to prevent any skin infections and digestive issues.(Pinterest) expand-icon View Photos in a new improved layout

Digestive issues due to giardiasis and GI parasites: Giardiasis is caused by the protozoan found in soil that makes its way into your pet’s gut when they consume infected soil. It can lead to digestive upsets like diarrhoea and vomiting. On the other hand, GI parasites can spread through the stools of infected animals. They get ingested into your pets’ system during walks. Pet parents can recognize these diseases through the presence of worms in stools or if the pet is suffering from diarrhoea or vomiting profusely. In such cases, it is important to consult the vet, especially if worms are found in stools or vomit. Apart from this, regular deworming must be done under the supervision of vets. It is highly advisable to clean their paws for hygiene purposes after the walk as pets have the habit of licking them.(Pinterest) expand-icon View Photos in a new improved layout

Ear infections: Ear infections are very common during monsoons. In such a situation, pets tend to scratch their ears and shake their heads a lot. In some cases, they even walk with tilted heads. Pet parents must be observant of such habits and take them for ear cleaning, medicated drops, and other meds based on severity. As the rainy season is difficult to deal with, pet parents must ensure that preventive measures are in place. Taking the pet for necessary vaccinations or booster doses prior to the monsoon helps in avoiding infections and diseases during the monsoon. Even after preventive measures if pets develop serious conditions, then the vet must be consulted immediately.(Pixabay) expand-icon View Photos in a new improved layout
