Often due to the loss of elasticity in the veins of the body, the blood travels backwards and gets the veins swollen. This leads to varicose veins – enlarged, swollen twisting veins usually blue or dark purple in colour. Some of the reasons for varicose veins are obesity, pregnancy, lack of exercise and heredity.
