Avinash Sable dominated the field in men's 1000m steeplechase. He won gold by a big margin, registering a Games record time of 8:19.50 while second-placed Ryoma Aoki of Japan had a time 8:23.75. (PTI)

Wu Yanni of China, the other favourite to win gold in the race apart form Yarraji, had gotten off to a false start and Yarraji was among those who went off right after her. However both athletes ended up being shown the disqualification paddle. After lengthy discussions, both were allowed to compete and Wu had originally finished second. However, she was then disqualified and Yarraji's medal was upgraded. (REUTERS)

The Indian men's badminton won silver after losing 3-2 to China. While they had squandered a 2-0 lead in the match, the fact remains that this is India's first ever medal in the men's team badminton event. (PTI)
