Australia’s Great Barrier Reef is bleaching into extinction

Coral bleaching occurs when polyps can no longer continue their symbiotic relationship with algae like ‘zooxanthellae’  which reside inside their tissues, giving corals their distinct colour and also aiding photosynthesis.
