One lakh CCTV (close circuit television) cameras will be installed in the city for security of the residents. This was announced by K Venkatesham, commissioner of police, Pune, during an interaction organised by the Baner Balewadi Pashan Residents Association (BBPRA) at Willows Society at Balewadi on Wednesday. The project will kick start from Baner- Balewadi.

“At least one lakh CCTV cameras will be installed at all the societies for geotagging, and a separate wing for private security will be established for overall security,” said K Venkatesham. During the event he also highlighted about Bharosa, Cops Hub. The Hub will improve safety and security for senior citizens and people living in bungalows and independent houses.

Venkatesham said, “Cases of cybercrime are on a rise in the city. So we will undertake drives in schools to create awareness among children.”

Meanwhile, during the interaction the residents shared their concerns like having additional personnel at Balewadi police station, encroachments on newly constructed roads among others.

The residents also handed over a letter to the police to form a panel to address safety and security issues of Baner Balewadi and Pashan areas.

This letter highlights that the monthly meeting should have a set timebound and feasible goals, track execution in the decided time frame, among others requirements. Also, a suggestion was made to police to define a zero tolerance zone in which for a month there should be no violation.
