Swati Sathe, deputy inspector general (prison), Maharashtra, filed a complaint against Hiralal Jadhav, suspended superintendent of Thane central jail, at Kothrud police station. She alleged in her complaint that Jadhav was seen in Kothrud area, where Sathe lives.
Jadhav was suspended in September 2016 after sexual harassment allegations made by a female prison employee. A year after his suspension, the Maharashtra administrative tribunal (MAT) had recommended cancellation of his suspension. However, in December 2017, the Bombay high court put a stay on the MAT order and upheld his suspension.
"She was the head of the Vishakha committee which investigated the sexual harassment charges against him," said Appasaheb Shewale, senior police inspector of Kothrud police station. However, Jadhav had opposed an inquiry into the sexual harassment charges by the committee led by DIG Sathe. The committee is now headed by Aswathi Dorje, an Indian police service (IPS) officer, who was promoted as director of Nashik police academy in May.
Sathe saw him a few days ago around a kilometre away from her house in Kothrud. Jadhav is a resident of Kondhwa area of Pune, the police said.
"We will call and ask him what he was doing in Kothrud at the mentioned time and will check whether he had a good reason to be there," said senior PI Shewale.
In July 2017, after a female inmate of Byculla jail was found dead on the prison premises, Jadhav had filed a case against Sathe for protecting the six officials held responsible for the inmate's death.
No case has been registered in response to the complaint filed by DIG Sathe.
