The Rajesh Wadhawan-owned Indian Super League franchise FC Pune City confirms that it has parted ways and mutually terminated the employment contract with head coach Antonio Lopez Habas and assistant coach Miguel Martinez Gonzalez, with immediate effect.
“FC Pune City thanks Habas for his efforts over the last one-and-a-half year and wishes him the best in his future endeavors," the club said. "The name of the new head coach will be announced shortly," it added.
Talking about the decision, club CEO Gaurav Modwel said, “We had signed him in January 2016 and the contract was for two seasons. The problem was that he had taken prior commitments and even later he was looking for other opportunities. So we mutually decided to part ways.”
When asked about the new signing of coach, he said, “It’s a very challenging task. We have very few coaches who are available right now. So getting a quality coach in a limited time is tough but we are hopeful that we would find the best one.”
Antonio Habas on his part added that, “Due to a longer season, it is unfortunate that I cannot continue as I have already made prior contractual commitments.”
