Over 50,000 Pune students await admissions to first year junior college
As many as 41,961 students, of 75,939, were alloted colleges as per their preference
Following completion of the admission process for the first year junior college (FYJC) first list candidates, on Tuesday, as many as 50,000 students are still without admissions, as per the data released by the education department.
This comes after the authorities extended the deadline for applications twice due to bad weather conditions in several parts of the state. Earlier, the last day of admissions was extended by a day, from July 9 to July 10, which was later revised to July 11. The procedure for admissions to Class 11 had begun on July 6.
As per the data, a total of 75,939 forms were received, of which, 41,961 students were allotted colleges as per preference. Of these, 17,189 students were allotted to colleges of their first preference.
However, 54,488 students are still without admissions and will have to wait for the next list of vacancies. Of these, while 33,978 did not get admissions in the process, 20,510 students did not take admissions, in spite of being allotted colleges, under the admission procedure. Only 21,122 students have completed the process and taken admissions as per the first merit list.
“Students who are yet to get admissions have to wait for the list of vacant seats that will be declared on Thursday at 11 am. They will then have to start filling Part 1 and Part 1 admission forms. The last date for it is July 13,” said Meenakshi Raut, assistant director of education.
According to the revised timetable, the cut-off for the first merit list along with the vacancies will be displayed on the website from July 12, 11 am onwards. The second merit list for the procedure will be out on July 16.
In 2018 admissions, students across 663 divisions will be vying for 96,320 seats for FYJC in 285 colleges across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad areas. These colleges include Arts, Science, Commerce and vocational courses in English, Marathi and Urdu.
