The Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has decided to club examination centres for its bachelor of education (B Ed) degree course owing to paucity of students, varsity officials said.

The decision was taken owing to the decreasing number of students applying for B Ed courses. The authorities issued a public circular to all colleges offering the B Ed , affiliated to the university, stating the reasons why the varsity has been forced to club examination centres.

As per the public circular, the colleges have to take the responsibility of informing students about the examination centres that the university has already finalised. A list of the centres for the examination in November had been published earlier.

However, according to SPPU exam controller Ashok Chavan, this is the usual practice and has nothing to do with the falling numbers. “It is a common routine practice every year, for the university to declare a list of centres which involves clubbing some. So this should not shock or create confusion among students,” Chavan said.
