A 25-year-old man was arrested by the city police on Tuesday for driving a teenager to commit suicide. The 19-year-old deceased has been identified as Sonya alias Rushab Rajesh Bhosale. He was found hanging in his house on Monday, according to the complaint.
Bharat Nagnath Vyavhare (25), also a resident of Keshavnagar in Mundhwa, was arrested by the police on Tuesday. He was sent to police custody remand (PCR) till October 5 by a local court, according to the police.
Vyavhare had slapped and assaulted Bhosale on the same day, according to the complaint. The complaint states that the presence of Bhosale’s girlfriend during the incident made him feel insulted and that is why he took the drastic step.
The complaint was filed by the deceased boy’s cousin, Nitin Jagtap (25), who also lives in the vicinity. A case under Section 306, for abetment to suicide, of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against Vyavhare at the Mundhwa police station before he was arrested.
Police sub inspector (PSI) PL Giri of Mundhwa police station is the investigation officer in the case. The deceased did not leave a suicide note, however, the complainant in the case claimed that the reason was the fight with Vyavhare.
Bhosale was visiting his girlfriend at her office when the two got into an altercation, the police said. “Vyavhare, who saw the two fighting, presumed that Bhosale was harassing the girl, and got into a fight with Bhosale in order to save her. He was in the area and did not know that the girl was Bhosale’s girlfriend,” PSI Giri said.
“The two lived in the same vicinity, They may have seen each other but did not know each other well,” said PSI Giri, when asked if the deceased and the arrested knew each other.
