Pune’s Kothrud police arrest 60-year-old for molesting two minors
The accused’s wife, son and daughter-in-law, who live with him, were not at home as they had gone to their village for a funeral.
The Kothrud police have arrested a 60-year-old slum dweller for allegedly sexually assaulting two girls - aged three and four - on Tuesday morning.
The accused, Prabhakar Girje, is a plumber and was alone in his house at the time of the incident.
The two girls were dropped off at their aunt’s house in Sutardhara, Kothrud, by their mother, a manual labourer, as she had to go to work.
The accused’s wife, son and daughter-in-law, who live with him, were not at home as they had gone to their village for a funeral. Girje lured the girls to his house and then allegedly molested them. The aunt the girls did not suspect anything, believing they were playing outside.
Only when the mother returned in the evening did the girls narrate what had happened.
The mother rushed to the police station and lodged a complaint under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
Inspector Pratibha Joshi, Kothrud police station in-charge, said the accused was arrested at 8.30 am on Wednesday and will be produced in the court. “The two kids were physically molested and exploited by Girje and he has confessed to the crime. The victim’s mother dropped her daughters off at the aunt’s place, and the two girls were lured into the trap by Girje ,” she said.
