Pune’s meritorious SSC, HSC students to receive PMC scholarship by next week
A total of Rs 15,000 and Rs 25,000 per year, will be given to students qualifying and excelling in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations respectively. Scholarships for meritorious students of Class 10 and 12 will be deposited in their bank accounts by next week, said municipal corporation officials. According to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials, once the scholarship amount is received by the corporation, the process of depositing the money will be expedited.
To expedite the process, PMC commissioner Kunal Kumar has directed thesocial development department to deposit the amount as soon as possible. All the information of the students along with their bank accounts have been sent to the audit department by the social development department. The review for the same for now is underway, confirmed the officials.

However, despite the completion of the procedure of filling the applications, the said amount was yet to be credited to the students’ accounts and has been pending for almost a month, which led to tension and protests by many students. In order to respond to the same and remedy the situation, the municipal corporation commissioner, thus, decided to step in and expedite it.
A scholarship of Rs.25,000 is to be given to Class 12 students under the Bharat Ratna Maulana Abul Kalam Azad scheme, and a scholarship of Rs 15,000 is to be given to meritorious Class 10 students under the Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe scheme. A total of 2,516 applications have been received for HSC students, while 6,398 SSC students applied for the scholarships. A total of around Rs 21 crore was needed as scholarship amount for these students, while the corporation had Rs.14 crore as budget, the PMC officials said.
However, commissioner Kunal Kumar has asked the speedy deposit of the money from the available funds, without waiting for the total amount, by next week.
