WhatsApp Pune’s police chief on 8975 283 100 for complaints

Pune’s new commissioner of police, K Venkatesham, declared his intention to be hands-on in the city by announcing a WhatsApp number - 8975 283 100 - on which Punekars can send in complaints and grievances, which will be personally tracked by him.

The commissioner added that he would be active on social media like his predecessor Commissioner Rashmi Shukla, operating the Twitter account @CPPuneCity.

In an interaction with the media at the commissionerate in Camp on Monday, Venkatesham, accompanied by senior IPS officers, outlined his plans to curb crime in the city.

“City police will focus more on strict vigilance on different types of crimes and will take timely action to bring the desired results for the citizens,” Venkatesham said.

Venkatesham added that he would give more emphasis on basic policing and will keep a close tab on how investigations are being carried out by his staff.

As far as the cyber crime domain went, Venkatesham pointed out the Mumbai pattern of investigation will be followed in Pune. He added that the police would widely appeal to residents to “come out with their law and order problems.”

K Venkatesham, who was police commissioner of Nagpur, has taken Rashmi Shukla’s place, who has been promoted as Additional director general (ADG) of Highway safety patrol (HSP).

Venkatesham has also worked as Additional Director General of Police (Training and Special Units), Maharashtra State Police Headquarter. He is an officer of 1988 batch of Indian Police service (IPS) and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had appointed him as the chief of the Special Task Force (STF) to investigate the multi-crore scholarship scam in educational institutions across Maharashtra.

Dr Venkatesham began his career as Additional Superintendent (ASP) Gondia District which was his first posting on completion of his IPS training . He has worked as Deputy Commissioner of Police in different zones in Mumbai and known for his crackdown a drive against gangsters He had also worked as Mumbai Special Branch II as an in-charge of Foreigners Registration and Immigration at International airport. His other important postings have been as Deputy Director in Intelligence Bureau (IB), DIG (Law & Order) and Additional CP (South Mumbai).
