Puneite stuck in Hurricane Irma with other Indians, claim sister and wife

The man told his sister that they had no water and electricity supply.

Yashwant Survase, a 28-year-old Indian youth is stuck in Breezy Bay region of Grant Turk Island of the Turks and Caicos islands in the Caribbean, according to his wife Sneha Sharad Pawar (31) who told Hindustan Times on Friday.

Ashwini Shevale (32), the sister of the man believed to be stuck due to the effects of Hurricane Irma, claimed that he had contacted the Indian Embassy in the United Kingdom after the hurricane alert was issued. However, they have not received a response from the Indian Embassy.

The couple has lived on the island for the past four years and Sneha was in the country to attend a family function in Pune in July and has been here ever since. She was supposed to fly back to the island on Sunday, she said.  

The two women claimed that several other people from their community are stuck on the island. Some of them were identified by them as Neelkanth Mehtani, Christy Medikonda, Chetan Chablani, Dharmesh Patel, Darshika Patel, Thiyagu Chandran and Jiten Sharma.

The man spoke to his sister at 10 pm on Thursday night. He told her that they had no water and electricity supply. The sister of the man believed to be stuck on the island also claimed that the UK Navy was on the spot for rescue but the British were being prioritised over others.

Yash Survase was born and bought up in Rasta Peth area of Pune and got been married two years back.
