Sangli: 7 MNS members arrested for attacking workers from other states

Seven members of the Maharashra Navnirman Sena (MNS) were arrested by the police in Sangli for hitting people from other states, working in the industrial town of Kupwad. The incident happened on Tuesday when the workers were in the market area, according to the police.
Police inspector Ashok Kadam of the MIDC Kupwad police station took the seven men to the local court in Sangli on Wednesday afternoon. The police have recommended seven days in police custody remand (PCR) for the accused.
The MNS members reportedly demanded that local youth be provided employment in the industrial area which has a huge population of migrant workers.
A case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 341 for wrongful restraint, 323 - for voluntarily causing hurt, 506 - for criminal intimidation and 34 - for acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention and 146 - for rioting, have been registered at the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) Kupwad police station.
The public attack came days after MNS held a march in Mumbai against hawkers on railway bridges and stations in the light of the Elphinstone stampede which claimed 23 lives.
