Savitribai Phule Pune University starts new undergraduate course in hospitality

The department of Management and Sciences (PUMBA) of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) launched a new undergraduate course in hospitality and facilities management last academic year and has received tremendous response, claim college officials.
The admission procedure to the UG course is underway now. According to the college officials, it is the first of its kind course in the country which aims to equip students with hospitality and management skills.
“In the department of Management and Sciences (PUMBA), now we offer a three year full time BBA programme in Hospitality and Facilities Management.
“We have introduced the course at the right time. It is the combination of various specialised fields of the service industry, with a thrust on practical application,” said professor D R Mane, head, PUMBA.
Mane also said that it is a course exclusively designed for students aspiring for a long term career in soft services industry.
“The course will offer excitingcareers in the dynamic customer service fields ranging across hospitalitymanagement, facilities management, retail management, travel and tourism and many more. These are developing sectors that attract young talent and can be developed into a full-fledged profession,” he said.
Students who have passed Class 12 from any stream of study - Science, Commerce, Arts and Vocational with English as one of the subjects in higher secondary certificate examination are eligible to apply. The minimum aggregate marks required is 45% for open and 40% for reserved category. Students who wish to apply for the BBA course 2019-20 batch, can visit their website www.pumba.in and the online entrance test for this course will be held in the last week of May.
