Six cases of chain-snatching reported in Pune in one hour

The Hadapsar police have arrested a gang of six men who were behind a spate of incidents in which passengers were looted while taking an auto ride.The accused have been identified as Gaurav Shivram Gaikwad (19), a resident of Chikhali; Jaideep Navinkumar Shah(19), a resident of Chakan; Shubham Tatya Kale (19), a resident of Phursungi; Ankit Shivaji Raut ( 26), a resident of Phursungi; Amol Raju Shinde (21), a resident of Phursungi and Rohit Deepak Bhosale (24), also a resident of Phursungi.

Mohsin Nasir Shaikh lodged a complaint in which he said he was brutally attacked by a group on May 5 at 2.30 am near Akashwani in Hadapsar. Based on the complaint, the police team under inspector Sunil Tambe carried out the arrests.
Shaikh said that he was travelling in an auto when the driver suddenly started demanding money for liquor. When he refused, he was attacked with a stone which left him with an injury on his head. The driver, made a phone call and asked his friends to come along. His friends came on motorcycles and robbed Shaikh of his cash and mobile phone, before speeding away.
Based on the inputs of police officials identified as Sanjay Chavan and his team attached to the detection branch, the police have arrested the six men. The police have recovered an auto, two motorcycles and four mobiles from their possession, totally estimated to be at least Rs 1.70 lakh, which might have been robbed from other passengers, said officials on condition of anonymity. The details about similar incidents involving the six accused are awaited.
