Two drown in pond at Lohegaon

The men, who are from Bidi Kaamgaar Vasti in Chandan Nagar, had gone to swim in the pond which is usually not deep. However, the rainfall in the recent weeks had filled the pond to almost 6-6.5 feet.

Two men from the Chandan Nagar locality near Viman Nagar, drowned in a pond filled with rain water on Monday evening around 4 pm, Khadki police said in a statement. The two men were identified as Akshay Arun Chincholkar (25) and Ravindra Popat Ghadshi (26), according to the police.

“One of them did not know to swim. When he started drowning, the other one jumped in to help him. They both got stuck and drowned,” said senior police inspector Sanjay Naik Patil of Vimantal police station.

The two bodies were taken to Sassoon Hospital for post mortem. Two other men, who were reportedly with the deceased informed the police who arrived at the spot near the Forest Park along with the fire brigade. The fire brigade officials recovered the bodies.
