Atharva Shashikant Deshpande, a 17-year-old Class 11 science student of DY Patil Junior College in Pimpri, was assaulted by two lecturers on Friday. According to the police, the lecturers allegedly thrashed the student for not studying. The assault left him with bleeding nose and ears. The student was admitted to a nearby hospital where he was given first-aid treatment and later discharged.

Inspector Ajay Bhosale of Bhosari police station said, “The lecturers have been identified as Ujagare and Jawale (full names and details unavailable). Ujagare called Atharva out of the classroom and said that he would be giving zero marks in his subject. In the meantime, Jawale hit the student on his head, face, back and nose.” The police have launched a search to arrest the suspects who have been booked under Juvenile Justice Act 2013 Section 75 ( punishment for cruelty to child) and Indian Penal Code 1860 Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation), said police sub-inspector (PSI) Birudeo Kabugade, the investigation officer.
