Under-16 inter-club cricket: Shinde, Deshmukh script victory for PYC Hindu Gymkhana
PYC Hindu Gymkhana beats Ranjane Cricket Academy by 74 runs to lift Captain Shivrampant Vishnu Damle trophy
Smooth 96 runs of 59 balls from Soham Shinde and five wickets from leg spinner Mihir Deshmukh was enough for PYC Hindu Gymkhana as they defeated Ranjane Cricket Academy (RCA) by 74 runs to lift the title of Captain Shivrampant Vishnu Damle trophy under-16 inter-club cricket tournament played at Katariya high school ground on Saturday.
It was Shinde all the way for PYC Hindu Gymkhana who hit 13 boundaries and 1 six to score 96 runs in 59 balls. Shinde who was dropped at deep fine leg in first over of the match who took full advantage from there onwards and build a 108 runs partnership with opener Rohan Phadke who scored 41 runs in 28 balls.
“We got benefit from the loose fielding of the opponents. Our batsmen took full advantage and put on a good total on the board,” said Shinde who has represented Maharashtra under-16 team.
Anish Jagtap and Koosh Patil were the other two players from PYC who have played for under-16 Maharashtra team.
Jagtap added 44 runs in 33 balls with the help of 4 boundaries and 1 six.
“Having experienced players in the team helps. All the players have contributed to the victory,” added Shinde.
Scoring at the rate of 10 runs per over helped PYC Gymkhana to put on a big total on the board.
“Especially in final, you feel pressure if you see a score of more than 200 runs on the board. I hope from here onwards players will understand how to play finals in future and on what aspect they need to improve,” said Mitrajeet Naik-Nimbalkar, captain, RCA.
Chasing a big total, RCA never looked in control as their openers Naik-Nimbalkar and Ojas Betawadkar tried to push on for boundaries but couldn’t find many in first six overs which had put pressure on the team.
Both were back in the pavilion before the team could score 50 and then it was difficult for them to come back.
A late came back from Sahil Abhang who scored 42 runs in 29 balls raised hopes for RCA but it was not enough as they kept losing wickets at the other end.
Mihir Deshmukh the right arm leg spin bowler from PYC bowl brilliantly and took five wickets giving away just 13 runs in 3.4 overs.
PYC who is coached by Maharashtra Ranji team player Indrajeet Kamtekar was all happy with his team’s performance.
“The best part is the team is good at fielding. They hardly missed any catches which help any team. I am training them since last September and they have shown tremendous improvement. The team was selected from 35 players who had played two five-day matches. The best players were selected,” said Kamtekar who also thanked his co-coach, Abhishek Agarwal, for bringing out the best from his players.
On Shinde, who also got the man of the series award, Kamtekar added, “Shinde has a very good temperament which is helping him to become a good batsman. I am watching him since his under-14 days, he has a lot of hunger to score and it is helping him.”
