What to do in Pune this weekend
From music, to food to art. Here’s what Pune has in store for you this weekend.
What: Aabracadabra brings its second play to the city with Tpot productions’ ‘The Exchange Student’. Director Trishla Patel says, “The play is special purely for the simplicity in its message of trying to see beyond colour and borders. We see a child help another child without wanting anything in return. As a background we also have a Panchatantra tale about friendship and a Vikram and Betaal story to expose this new generation to the joy of some old timeless tales. We also lightly touch upon the subject of child labour, which is prevalent in our society.”
She adds that young and old alike will enjoy the antics of the actors with ‘live’ music and singing. This is a Gripps form of theatre where adults play children. She says, “Some topics are easier for us to portray to children in this particular format at times. I am sure they will all relate to it at some level.”
It is a story about a young Italian child visiting Mumbai as part of an exchange programme. The child stays with a host family for a week and attends the school. Things get lost in translation, as he becomes part of the experience while attending school and making new friends. Getting lost in the city is a completely different ball game for a foreign child.
The story in a sensitive manner presents many eye openers, which go unnoticed in our daily lives. The play has a nine-member cast Shashank Vishnu Dutt,Priyanka Kaul, Anuj Rampal and Vedika Sai.
