'104 villages in district to get water supply schemes'

Water supply schemes would be provided to 104 villages of the district and sewerage facility to 10 villages at an estimated cost of Rs 35.31 crore in 2013-14, under the World Bank Assisted Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project.
Manpreet Singh Ayali, Dakha MLA, and Zila Parishad chairman, said this while presiding over the district water supply and sanitation committee (DWSC) meeting held at Zila Parishad Hall on Thursday.
Ayali said the Ludhiana Zila Parishad was foremost in developmental works and distribution of grants in the entire state. He said these villages would be provided potable water and sewerage up to March 2014.
JS Chahal, district programme specialist-cum-executive engineer, said under the guidance of Ayali, the Ludhiana Zila Parishad and DWSC were functioning well.
“Department of water supply and sanitation (DWSS) has implemented the World Bank Project very effectively in Ludhiana district,” he said.
He further added that both Zila Parishad and DWSS not only implemented the water supply project but performed well in sanitation field as well.
The meeting was attended by officers of various departments, executive engineers, sub-divisional engineers of DWSS, Ludhiana, and Zila Parishad members, among others.
