2 docs, patient get 3 years for illegal abortion
The court of additional sessions judge Dilbag Singh Johal has sentenced two doctors and a patient to threeyear rigorous imprisonment after they were convicted of illegal abortion. In May 2013, a health department raid had found Dr Harjit Kaur (34) conducting abortion on patient Gurvinder Kaur.

The court of additional sessions judge Dilbag Singh Johal has sentenced two doctors and a patient to threeyear rigorous imprisonment after they were convicted of illegal abortion. In May 2013, a health department raid had found Dr Harjit Kaur (34) conducting abortion on patient Gurvinder Kaur.
The hospital was also found to be running unauthorised Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP), following which the labour room was sealed. The doctor, her father-inlaw Dr Kartar Singh, the owner of the hospital, and the patient were booked on the complaint of SMO Dr SK Mittal. Harjit and Gurvinder were arrested the same day, while Kartar Singh was held after 4 months.
