Punjabi university vice-chancellor Jaspal Singh was the chief guest on the occasion.

Addressing the gatherings, Jaspal said that acquiring wisdom should be the chief goal of the students. "Higher education has limited itself to mere data and information and has therefore failed to achieve the ultimate goal of developing civilised human beings," he said adding that students should also seek traditional knowledge from literature, teachers and parents.

He appealed to the students to aim for excellence in whatever field they choose and contribute to the betterment of the society.

Out of 335 students, 198 were graduate students from disciplines including BA, B Sc, BA (Honours), BCA while 137 were postgraduates.

Earlier, the V-C also laid the foundation stone for the commerce block.
