4 lives lost in road mishap

Four people were killed late Monday when two cars collided on the national highway to Ludhiana near Ajitwal village in this district. All deaths in the accident were on the spot, Sukhwinder Singh (ASI) at Ajitwal, has said.

Victims Balwinder Kumar Batra and Mangat Ram Arora, both from Kotkapura (Faridkot), were in a Maruti Alto car and on their way home from Ludhiana with Batra’s wife, Meena Kumari. Victims Lovepreet Singh of Daudhar village in Moga district and Amrik Singh of Dhatt (Ludhiana) were in a Hyundai Accent car and heading to Ludhiana.

Near Ajitwal, the Accent car coming in at reckless speed from the opposite side hit the Alto. Batra, Mangat, Lovepreet, and Amrik were killed on the spot. Meena, who was in the Alto; besides Gurinder Singh and Gurdeep Singh of Daudhar, Davinder Singh and another man, who all were in the Accent, were injured seriously and admitted to a hospital.

The affected families claimed the bodies on Tuesday after autopsy at the Moga Civil Hospital. The police have registered a case against Gurdeep Singh of Daudhar, driver of the Accent car.
