Activists of the Bachpan Bachao Andolan and the district child welfare committee rescued seven child labourers from various factories and shops in the district on Friday.
Dinesh Kumar, a Bachpan Bachao Andolan activist, said three children were rescued from RK Beri Hosiery in Bajwa Nagar, two from Jaggi Ice Cream near Clock Tower, one from New Shakti Nagar and the other from Focal Point.
Dinesh said: "A 15-year-old child, who was rescued from Jaggi Ice Cream, told us his father had taken loan of Rs 4 lakh from a person hailing from his village in Bihar. But his father had gone missing a few years ago and the child had to become a labourer here. He was earning RS 4,000 and was sending his wages to his family so that the loan could be repaid."
Dinesh further said the children were medically examined at Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital.
Apart from police officials, a member of the Child Welfare Committee was present during the raid, he added.
