Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Ludhiana with the help of a city-based garbage collection company launched a campaign, 'Clean and green Ludhiana', to clean solid wastes in the city on Sunday.

Party volunteers, led by party spokesperson HS Phoolka, organised a cleanliness and plantation drive at Sunnet railway crossing, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. As a result of this drive, a long stretch strewn with garbage was fully cleaned.

Phoolka said, “The municipal corporation has failed miserably in its duty to provide clean and healthy living conditions to city residents. Besides being an eyesore, excess garbage is the root cause for all sorts of pollution in the city. Solid waste, especially during rains, has caused serious health problems as has been evident in the recent outbreak of gastro-related diseases in the Prakash Nagar area of Jawaddi.”

Volunteers would be organising many more such drives to make Ludhiana a more liveable city, added Phoolka.
