She is under observation and stable, Dr GS Bajwa, head of the department of ophthalmology at Dayanad Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) here, has said on Monday. "Police and the district administration will provide her with free-of-cost treatment," said police commissioner Nirmal Singh Dhillon, adding: "They are trying to give the family financial and emotional support."

Police will generate funds by own and NGOs' help and make a policy to implement the ban on free sale of acid in the city.

Acid bought from battery shop

The culprits purchased acid from a battery shop at the Bakshiwala bus stand near Patiala. Police will take action against the shopkeeper.

Accused Parvinder Singh is also charged with putting a forged number plate on the getaway vehicle. It was a car he had borrowed from his uncle, Nirmal Singh. Police action is likely against the dealer who provided him with the fake number plate.

Three who got clean chit

The police also gave clean chit to Vishal Garg, Kuldeep Singh and Manjit Singh, colleagues of victim Harpreet Kaur, after investigation. They were in police custody since Saturday.
