After being jilted by lover, man sets himself ablaze

After being jilted by his lover, a 25-year-old man attempted to end his life by setting himself on fire on Friday. In his statement, the victim, Sunny Kumar, a resident of Bonker Dogra, said he was in a relationship with Jasvir Kaur, a resident of the same village, since the past four years and even wanted to marry her.

In his statement, the victim, Sunny Kumar, a resident of Bonker Dogra, said he was in a relationship with Jasvir Kaur, a resident of the same village, since the past four years and even wanted to marry her. While Kaur's family initially agreed to the get the couple married, they allegedly failed to keep their word. Humiliated, Kumar, a driver by profession, allegedly attempted to kill himself.

Kumar was taken to the civil hospital for treatment, after which he was shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh, for treatment.

Jasvir Kaur, her mother Majit Kaur and maternal uncles Sonu and Jora have been booked under sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and section 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) at Ladhowal police station. The police are currently looking for the accused, who are absconding.
