Joshi flagged-off four vans for door to door collection of garbage on Friday, but distribution of dustbins, which was the primary tasks of the hired companies, has not been done yet, the sources said.

“How can you start the work when you don’t have machinery in required numbers? The multitask project needs hundreds of vans for the collection with proper planning. But the minister inaugurated the project with only three-four vans,” said Amritsar mayor Bakhshi Ram Arora.

Arora said, “Moreover, when you know the official inauguration is on August 14 by the deputy chief minister, there was no need to inaugurate it prior to that,” adding, “The work will start only from August 14.”

Having a jibe at Joshi, Rajkanwalpreet Singh Lucky, leader of opposition in house of MC, said, “Leaders of both the ruling parties, SAD and BJP, are running a race of credit-taking.”

The local bodies minister had organised a function on Friday without consulting anyone from the civic body, that is executing the project. On the other hand, Sukhbir is also paying special attention towards the project and wants its early completion in view of the upcoming elections.
