Attack on MLA Sandoa: Police yet to arrest main suspect

The police have also withdrawn gunmen provided to Sandoa after they failed to protect him from the attack.

The police is yet to arrest the main accused, Ajwinder Singh, for the attack on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amarjit Singh Sandoa at Beinhara village in Nurpur Bedi area on Thursday.

The police had arrested three accused Jaswinder Singh Goldy, Manjit Singh and Amarjit Singh, all of Beinhara village and recovered a black SUV, a Mahindra XUV, and two 12-bore guns from their possession.

However, Ajwinder Singh and Bachittar Singh of Bhaowal village, had fled after the incident. Both are still absconding.

The police also withdrew two gunmen provided to the accused Ajwinder Singh after the incident. Ajwinder is facing a threat from gangster Dilpreet Singh Dhahan.

The police have also withdrawn gunmen provided to Sandoa after they failed to protect him from the attack.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Raj Bachan Singh Sandhu said new gunmen will be provided to Sandoa after reviewing his security at the headquarter level.

Meanwhile, AAP will hold a dharna at Rupnagar to protest against the attack on Sandoa.

Rupnagar deputy commissioner Kanwalpreet Brar said a team has been formed by the government to investigate the matter.

He added that a report had been sought from the SSP in this regard.

On Thursday, Ajwinder had uploaded a video on social media alleging that the MLA had been demanding money from a a mining contractor, Sarabjit Singh, and he had gone to the spot to make Sandoa see reason.
