Lahaul and Spiti deputy commissioner Beer Singh Thakur told HT that the district administration had put out an advisory for the safety of residents of low lying areas that are prone to be hit by avalanches, especially Guskiar, Yurnath, Bha Garang, Ley Garang, Baring and Yangla, Darcha, Junda, Galing, Triloknath, and Hinsa and other villages, which had earlier suffered these disasters.
“The water course of the Chander Bhaga river has completely dried up due to avalanches on river banks, so the residents are advised to refrain from going there ,” Thakur added.
Avalanches that hit the district in the past have created a lake one and half metres deep.
Meanwhile, Keylong, Udaipur and Koksar received a fresh snowfall. “All main and link roads are closed and the power supply to most areas in the district has been cut off,” he added.
