Bathinda lad to take part in Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities

Yashveer is among the four candidates selected from across the country to represent India at the Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities.

Yashveer Goel, 18, of Bathinda, who has bagged the first position in the hearing impaired category of the National IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities, will now represent the country at the Global IT Challenge in Vietnam in September.

The competition was organised by the National Institute of Technology, Kurukushetra on July 20 and 21 under the aegis of Union ministry of social justice.

Yashveer is among the four candidates selected from across the country to represent India at the Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities. He is the first candidate from Punjab to be ever selected for this international event.

Yashveer has been suffering from hearing impairment since birth and he cannot speak. However, he lives a normal and independent life.

His father Chandra Parkash said Yashveer son secured 91% marks in Class 12. He is currently pursuing his graduation from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

He cannot understand the sign language but interacts with the help of his skill to read lip movements.

While sharing his feelings with the help of his father, Yashveer told HT that he was on cloud nine after winning the contest and is eagerly waiting to visit Vietnam and make the nation proud.

The national contest involved e-designing, use of e-tools, and creativity challenge.

Chandra Prakash said Yashveer has leant computer skills on his own. “Yashveer loves to acquire new skills and has learnt tally, photoshop and various other things on his own. His hobbies are philately, badminton and photography. He is like a free bird and loves to pursue various things simultaneously,” he added.
