BDS admissions in Punjab: HC questions increase in vacant mgmt quota seats

The Punjab and Haryana high court has asked the Faridkot-based Baba Farid University of Health Sciences to explain how the number of vacant seats in management quota got increased from 361 to 395. The university had last month conducted counselling for admission to BDS courses in Punjab dental colleges.

The bench of justice GS Sandhawalia sought explanation following submissions from counsel Manish Singla, appearing for Punjab Self Financed Dental College Association. The body claimed vacant seats under the management quota on September 27 was 361. The counselling was held for three days and the number increased to 395, it said.

Referring to the Supreme Court order on BDS admissions, Singla said shuffling of seats filled up to September 30 was not permissible. But the university had resorted to the same. The court also took note of the fact that affidavit filed did not mention the exact number of vacant quota seats.
