BJP sweeps mayoral polls, Arun Sood new mayor of Chd

Finally after a gap of 15 years, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bagged the top position in the Chandigarh municipal corporation elections held on Friday.

Finally after a gap of 15 years, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) alliance bagged the top position in the Chandigarh municipal corporation elections held on Friday.

All the three posts - mayor, senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor - were bagged by the BJP.

The party councillor, Arun Sood, was elected the mayor of the union territory. Sood defeated his rival and Congress councillor Mukesh Bassi by a margin of six votes.Out of the total 36 votes polled, Sood got 21, while Bassi got 15 votes.

BJP’s Davish Moudgill won the post of deputy senior mayor. Moudgill, who got 23 votes, defeated Congress representative Darshan Garg.

The deputy mayor’s post was won by Hardeep Singh , who won by six votes.
