Led by former MLA and BJP leader Ram Lal Markandey, the protesters gathered in Kullu to raise issues facing the district's residents who they said had been "suffering for the past many weeks" due to lack of passenger air services to the area.

"Residents of Lahaul-Spiti are facing tough time past many days due to lack of regular flight service to the district, which are desperate to come out of district, in which most of them are patients, employees and students.

More than 20 days have elapsed after the Mooling bridge in Lahaul-Spiti collapsed, but till date no official has been sent to the area investigate the matter.

"We demand the state government should immediately set up a committee to investigate irregularities in construction of the bridge, which will help to determine why it collapsed," Markandey said.

Later the BJP activists sent a memorandum containing their demands to the Himachal Pradesh governor, urging him to look into the matter, through the local deputy commissioner.
