The BSF authorities said that the troops noticed some suspicious activity in the area and challenged the smuggler, but he managed to escape, leaving the contraband behind.
Later, a search operation was launched and two cloth bundles, one of them hanging on the fencing at the border and the other lying nearby on the Indian side, about 200 metres away from the international border, were recovered. Four packets of heroin were found in the bundles.
BSF officials said they had further tightened the security at the border and were keeping a close watch on the movement of smugglers.
