To build in on the tough action by court in sentencing 33 drunk drivers to one-month jail on Friday, the UT Police launched a special drive to check traffic violations on Saturday.
Under the plan, the police would check specific violations on fixed days to instil discipline with pollution certificates being the target on Saturday.
On Sunday, the police will launch a special drive against wrong parking/tinted glasses and films.
Inspector general of police (IGP) Tajender Singh Luthra said, “We have made a detailed plan to curb traffic violations. We have prepared a schedule in which specific violations would be checked during the entire day, either at random nakas or at different intersections.”
He added social media would also be used to inform residents on which offence would be on their radar on a particular day.
SSP (traffic) Maneesh Chaudhary said, “On Saturday, 1,124 traffic challans were issued and 23 vehicles were towed for wrong parking. An amount of Rs 2,20,900 was collected.”
