Chandigarh’s count: 354 accidents, 103 deaths since Jan

Unsafe driving practices have resulted in 354 accidents till November 15.

In majority cases, trucks, buses, loaded jeeps and two-wheelers are involved, say cops.

According to official records, Madhya Marg (from PGI to Housing Board chowk) and Dakshan Marg (from the entry point of Chandigarh (Zirakpur side) to Sector 25) have emerged the “favourite speeding zones” of offenders.

The data reveals that 42 two-wheeler occupants and 35 pedestrians have been killed in accidents caused by rash and negligent driving since January.

Cops claimed regular ‘nakas’ were being set up to keep tabs on offenders. The traffic wing has formed a special cell to study cause of accidents.

SSP, traffic, Maneesh Chaudhary said as many as 1,068 persons had challaned for for dangerous driving while 27,553 challans were issued to violators for speeding.

Person injured- 294 (male 225, female 69)
